The Risks of DIY Denture Repair: Why Professional Assistance is Essential

17/3/2024

Breaking your denture can be a real hassle. While it might seem like a quick fix to grab some glue and try to patch it up, taking that route could cause more problems than it solves. Here's why it's important to seek help from a professional at a denture clinic instead:
  1. Dentures Are Precise: Dentures are carefully crafted to fit the unique shape of your mouth. Trying to repair them yourself without the right tools and expertise could lead to misalignments and discomfort. A professional denturist has the skills and equipment to ensure that your denture is restored accurately, ensuring optimal comfort and function.
  2. Temporary Fixes Aren't Reliable: Although using adhesive may temporarily hold your denture together, it's not a long-term solution. Over-the-counter adhesives aren't designed to provide the structural support necessary for sustained use, and they may degrade the denture material over time. Relying on temporary fixes can ultimately worsen the problem and necessitate more extensive repairs.
  3. Prevent Infections: Improperly repaired dentures can trap bacteria and food particles, increasing the risk of oral infections and other complications. Denture clinics adhere to strict hygiene protocols to maintain a clean and sterile environment, reducing the likelihood of post-repair complications. By seeking professional assistance, you can minimize the risk of oral health issues associated with DIY repairs.
  4. Protect Your Investment: Dentures represent a significant investment in your oral health and quality of life. Attempting to fix them yourself without proper knowledge and expertise could compromise this investment and lead to costly consequences down the line. Entrusting your denture to a professional ensures that it is repaired effectively, preserving its longevity and functionality.
  5. Comprehensive Evaluation: Beyond simply repairing your denture, a denture clinic conducts a thorough evaluation to identify any underlying issues or weaknesses. This holistic approach allows for targeted solutions that address the root cause of the problem, rather than just its symptoms. Whether it's minor adjustments or complete refurbishments, a professional denturist tailors the treatment plan to your specific needs, ensuring optimal outcomes.
When faced with a broken denture, it's understandable to want to fix it as quickly as possible. However, taking matters into your own hands can lead to unintended consequences. By seeking assistance from a professional at a denture clinic, you can ensure that your denture is repaired effectively and safely, restoring your smile and peace of mind in the process.  Remember, when it comes to denture repair, leave it to the experts for peace of mind and optimal outcomes.

Dental Implants - My Thoughts

11/2/2017

Deciding whether or not to have implants placed can be difficult for many people. The added cost as well as the thought of having surgery to place something in the jaw is enough to make many people say "forget it".

I get that, but I want to shed light on the whole process and really want people to make an informed decision on whether to go forward with implants or not. The more information you have, the better your decisions will be.

As far as I am concerned, implants should be the minimum standard of care when it comes to dentures. When it comes to implants, there are far more benefits than disadvantages. I have seen way to many people suffering because of ill fitting dentures, especially the lower denture, due to severely resorbed bone. For many people, no matter what you do (relines or new dentures) it makes no difference. If there is nothing there to support the denture, the denture will not have any support.

Implants are the best solution to all of these problems, providing dentures that are snapped or fixed in place thus eliminating denture sore spots and embarrassing social situations with dentures dropping/popping out. Implants allow the patient to eat virtually all of the foods they were able to eat with their natural teeth effectively.

Some other benefits include better digestion due to being able to chew your food properly, better nutrition because you can eat what you want, an increase in the taste, temperature and texture of food vs. a standard denture because the palate in the upper plate can be reduced and your natural palate exposed.

People's number one excuse for not getting implants placed is regarding the cost. Yes, they cost more than a standard denture, but the cost is minimal for the improvement in the quality of the rest of your life. It is an investment in your self esteem, your health, and your overall happiness.

Another excuse that I hear is that the patient is too old to go through the cost and hassle of surgery. The only response I have is what if you live another 10 years? Would you rather suffer for those 10 years with dentures that are not working for you or your nutrition, or would you rather live those 10 years in comfort and without worry about what you can eat or can't eat, without the pain and discomfort of dentures that are floating around?

Easing fears about the loss of teeth

10/1/2017

The loss of ones teeth can be a very scary and traumatic experience. The thought of having teeth removed can be daunting with worries about what will happen to ones appearance, how will one be able to eat afterwards, how will one handle social obligations, and how will ones quality of life in general be affected?

My goal with every person who is going through this process is to try to answer any and all questions one has regarding the process of replacing the teeth that are lost or are going to be lost, to alleviate any fears one may have, and to restore, and in most cases improve, on your smile.

Nobody wants to worry about their teeth popping out in social situations or having teeth that are poor aesthetically.

My mission is to provide denture solutions that not only fit well, but are beautiful to look at, stable and function as well as possible when eating.

My passion is improving the quality of life of the people that I see and I take great pride in seeing the results that come with taking a traumatic experience of the loss of teeth and turning it into a positive experience with a great new smile.

Please, I want to help everyone that I can. Consultations are always free. Do not hesitate to call and discuss how I can help with your situation.
